Halcion was released in the United States in 1986 and is now the most common benzodiazepine drug prescribed. It has a very fast onset of action with a short half-life. It is often used as a sedative, anti-anxiety agent, and as muscle relaxant. Halcion drug is a benzodiazepine that is used to treat insomnia. The generic term for Halcion is Triazolam. It is typically used at night for sleep. It works by enhancing the action of natural chemicals in the brain called neurotransmitters. Some other drugs like valium and Xanax are also benzodiazepines, but Halcion is not an anti-anxiety drug. Halcion is generally used as a short-term drug usually prescribed for 7 to 10 days. The doctors usually do not recommend that patients use this drug for longer periods.
